TUSCALOOSA, AL — The National Weather Service forecast office in Birmingham has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Tuscaloosa County, warning that conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms through 8 p.m. Wednesday.

In addition to Tuscaloosa County, the watch includes Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, Marengo, Perry, Pickens, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Walker and Winston counties.
Communities in the watch area include Tuscaloosa, Northport, Moundville, Aliceville, Carrollton, Eutaw, Fayette, Jasper, Birmingham, Clanton, Centreville, Demopolis, Livingston, Marion, Pell City, Talladega, Oneonta and several other cities across central Alabama.
A severe thunderstorm watch means atmospheric conditions are favorable for severe storms capable of producing damaging winds, large hail and frequent lightning.
Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts throughout the afternoon and evening and be prepared to seek shelter if severe thunderstorm warnings are issued for their area.
