B&W Foods, the locally owned company that operates Piggly Wiggly West Alabama, announced the partnership Tuesday as it prepares to open its newest Tuscaloosa location.
Tuscaloosa Drug Company has operated in Five Points for more than a decade. The pharmacy will move from its current location across the street and operate as the in-store pharmacy at the new Piggly Wiggly.
"We've always believed that strong local businesses help build strong communities," B&W Foods co-owner Jay Welborn said. "Tuscaloosa Drug Company has built a great reputation and strong relationships in Five Points, and we're excited to welcome them into our new store."
The company says the move will allow the independent pharmacy to remain near its existing patients while giving customers the convenience of filling prescriptions and shopping for groceries at the same location.
Tuscaloosa Drug Company, which serves patients in Tuscaloosa and Northport, said its staff will continue serving existing patients while accepting new patients at the Five Points store.
"Tuscaloosa Drug Company is thrilled for the opportunity to settle into our newest location in the soon-to-open Piggly Wiggly Five Points store," pharmacist and co-owner Andrew Parrish said. "It speaks a lot about the Piggly Wiggly brand that they value our locally owned neighborhood pharmacy and asked us to serve as their in-store pharmacy."
Parrish said the pharmacy's team expects the transition across the street to allow it to maintain its relationships with longtime customers while expanding its reach.
The Five Points Piggly Wiggly, announced by B&W Foods earlier this year, will become the company's sixth store in Tuscaloosa County and eighth overall.
The location will also introduce several new offerings for Piggly Wiggly West Alabama shoppers in Tuscaloosa.
As Patch previously reported, plans call for the company's first full-service bakery, deli and floral departments in the city, along with a specialty meat case offering custom and specialty cuts.
B&W Foods has operated grocery stores in West Alabama for more than 25 years.
The new Five Points store is expected to open in fall 2026, though an official opening date has not yet been announced.
