The program is open to ages 12 to 14 and funded through the Alabama Legislature. Each district will see one male and one female student selected and given a scholarship to attend a special session of Space Academy in Huntsville.

During the weeklong program, students will learn the history of the space program, in addition to learning to work together as a team using STEM concepts to solve complex problems. What's more, participants will learn to train like an astronaut using authentic simulators, before embark on their own simulated space mission to the International Space Station, the Moon or Mars.
