Arts Council Accepting Applications For Tuscaloosa County Small Grants Program

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa is accepting applications for its annual Small Grants Program, which provides funding for artists and nonprofit organizations pursuing arts-related projects across Tuscaloosa County.

Applications are due Oct. 1 for projects scheduled to take place between Oct. 1, 2026, and May 15, 2027.

Grant recipients are expected to be announced by Oct. 31.

The Small Grants Program offers awards of up to $1,000 for organizations and up to $750 for individual artists.

Eligible projects for organizations include exhibits, festivals, residencies, productions and professional development opportunities such as seminars, institutes and workshops.

Funding may also be used to bring in consultants or support attendance by artistic or administrative staff at professional programs.

Professional artists may seek funding for pilot or short-term projects, as well as opportunities including workshops, conferences, seminars and apprenticeships with master artists.

The Arts Council said more than $140,000 has been awarded to local artists and organizations since the Small Grants Program was established in 1986.

Funding is also available for local teachers through the Arts in Education Grant administered through the Community Foundation of West Alabama.

The program provides money specifically for arts-related educational projects, with local educators eligible to apply through the Arts Council.

Those applications are also due Oct. 1 and must support activities taking place between Oct. 1, 2026, and May 15, 2027.
