TUSCALOOSA, AL — It's that time of year again as the Beat Auburn Beat Hunger food drive at the University of Alabama is set to kick off on Friday, Sept. 30.

This year marks the 29th year that UA and Auburn University students compete in the friendly competition to raise money and donations leading up to the Iron Bowl.

According to data from Feeding America, more than 700,00 people struggle with food insecurity in Alabama.
The campaign will run through Nov. 17 and will also see the kickoff event will take place on the steps of the state capitol in Montgomery on Friday at 11 a.m.

Participants can make donations of canned and nonperishable foods in red barrels spread across the UA campus and Tuscaloosa area. Also, monetary donations can be made to the West Alabama Food Bank by clicking here.
UA says the winner of the competition will be announced Nov. 18.
