A kickoff event will once again be held on the steps of the state capitol in Montgomery on Oct. 2, with representatives from UA and Auburn in attendance for Governor Kay Ivey to make donations to both universities.

Local donations in the Tuscaloosa area will benefit the West Alabama Food Bank.

Since the first food drive was held in 1994, UA and Auburn have collected more than 8 million pounds of food for Alabamians in need.

“Food insecurity in Alabama remains a prominent issue with 1 in 7 people being classified as food insecure,” Beat Auburn Beat Hunger President Rebecca Wilson said. “Beat Auburn Beat Hunger raises food and monetary donations for the West Alabama Food Bank with each donation helping to feed those in need, who may rely on our drive to feed themselves and their families.”

Monetary donations will also be accepted. Click here for a list of donation locations and instructions.
