The club said the Hasson Center site was opened in cooperation with the City of Northport and District 2 City Councilman Woodrow Washington III — an alumnus of the club who attended a Northport-based Club site more than 25 years ago.

As Patch previously reported, it has also been over 25 years since the nonprofit had a daily program in Northport.

Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama President & CEO Kim Turner said the nonprofit has been looking for an opportunity to serve youth in Northport for years after recognizing the need for youth development programs in every part of the community.

“We are very excited for the partnership we have with the City of Northport and the ability to now welcome children and teens in that area into the Boys & Girls Clubs family,” she said.

Enrollment for the club's summer program opened in May and quickly reached maximum capacity at the Hasson Center.

Additionally, summer activities for all members include field trips, financial literacy activities, and indoor and outdoor recreation, with staff working daily to meet the social-emotional learning needs of members, while also providing mentoring.

Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama says registration for fall after-school membership will begin by late July and parents are encouraged to monitor social media for the latest information.
