Sparks brings 14 years of experience in education, including seven years within the Rock Quarry school community.
“I am incredibly honored and excited to serve as the next principal of Rock Quarry Elementary,” Sparks said. “Rock Quarry is a special place with a strong tradition of excellence, supportive families and dedicated staff. Having spent the past seven years here, this school already feels like family to me.”
Tuscaloosa City Schools Superintendent Mike Daria praised Sparks’ leadership experience and commitment to students.
“Mrs. Sparks has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to academic excellence, student success and strong relationships with staff and families,” Daria said. “Her leadership experience and passion for serving students make her an excellent choice to lead Rock Quarry into its next chapter.”
Sparks earned an education specialist degree in administration of elementary and secondary education from Auburn University in 2025. She also holds master’s degrees in educational administration and elementary education from the University of West Alabama.
Before becoming assistant principal, Sparks worked as a teacher at both Rock Quarry Elementary and Moundville Elementary School. She also holds National Board Certification in literacy: reading-language arts and LETRS certification in the science of reading.
Sparks said she plans to continue building on the school’s established culture and academic success while strengthening relationships with families and the community.
“My goal is to build upon what already makes Rock Quarry special and continue supporting a school culture where students, staff and families feel valued and connected,” Sparks said.
She will officially assume the role ahead of the 2026-27 school year.
