Central High Runner Breaks 20-Year-Old School Record

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Central High School runner William Peterson is the school's newest record holder after a stellar performance at the Jesse Owens Classic on Saturday.

For his part in the event, hosted by Lawrence County High School in Oakville, the junior broke the school's boys 5K record with a time of 16:19.08.

Peterson finished 82nd out of 200 runners competing in the event. The only other Tuscaloosa native to finish in the Top 100 for the boys 5K was Northridge High sophomore Anglin Young, who logged a time of 15:47.89 and finished 36th overall.
Central High School said the record was previously held by Brandon York, who graduated in 2003.

"Peterson works day in and day out and gives 110% daily at practice," the school said in a social media post celebrating the accomplishment. "We can’t wait to see what his record will be over this next year."
