Central State Provost Introduced As First Of Three Candidates In Stillman President Search

Each of the three candidates will be officially introduced the day of their interviews with university staff and community members.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Stillman College's Trustee Presidential Search Committee has announced it will host three potential candidates this week to fill the position of president following the retirement of President Cynthia Warrick.

The candidates will be on the Stillman campus Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week to meet with Stillman staff and leadership, along with answering questions from community members.

In the latest update, sessions for Stillman College cabinet members, faculty, staff, students, and alumni will be held in the Warner Presentation Room in the Wynn Center.

Separately, the sessions for Tuscaloosa-area leaders will be held at Hotel Indigo in the Yellowhammer Room

Each session will also be broadcast via Zoom for those who can't attend in person.

Stillman College spokesperson David Miller told Patch that each of the three candidates will be officially introduced on the day of their interviews.

The first candidate introduced on Monday is F. Erik Brooks, a native of Montgomery who currently serves as the provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Central State University.

Brooks earned his Doctor of Philosophy from the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002 and holds three masters’ degrees from the following institutions: Troy State University, Auburn University Montgomery and Alabama State University.

Brooks says he has produced scholarship in the areas of race, African American history, public administration, and American politics, with his work appearing in scholarly journals, encyclopedias and academic guides. He has also authored or edited 14 books.

A member of several professional and social organizations, Brooks is involved with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., while mentioning that his passions include watching sports and traveling to Civil Rights and Civil War museums.
