City, Nucor Steel Partner For Tuscaloosa Hazardous Waste Disposal Day
The free event will be hosted by the City of Tuscaloosa's Environmental Services Department in partnership with Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Residents will have an opportunity next month to safely dispose of hazardous household materials during the City of Tuscaloosa’s annual Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day.

The free event, hosted by the City of Tuscaloosa’s Environmental Services Department in partnership with Nucor Steel Tuscaloos, is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Public Safety Logistics building located at 3311 Reese Phifer Ave.

City officials noted the event will end one hour earlier than in previous years.
The annual disposal day gives locals a safe and environmentally responsible way to get rid of common household hazardous waste that should not be thrown into regular garbage or poured down drains.

Accepted items include household cleaners, drain cleaner, automotive fluids, paint thinner, herbicides, insecticides, propane tanks up to 20 pounds, latex and oil-based paint, antifreeze, pesticides, bleach, gasoline, ammonia, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, sealants, solvents, lawn chemicals and fertilizers, arts and crafts supplies and other similar materials.
Officials said the event will not accept tires, medical waste, household garbage, electronics, radioactive waste or any waste generated outside Tuscaloosa County or by businesses and nonprofit organizations.
The drop-off event is only open to Tuscaloosa County residents and IDs will be checked at the site.
