City Of Tuscaloosa Holding Tornado Anniversary Memorials Tuesday

Here's a look at how the City of Tuscaloosa plans to observe the 10-year anniversary of a devastating tornado on April 27, 2011.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuesday marks a decade since a devastating EF4 tornado killed 53 people in Tuscaloosa County and destroyed a wide swath of the city during the largest tornado outbreak ever recorded.

The City of Tuscaloosa will hold simultaneous memorials at three different sites on Tuesday to commemorate the anniversary, while honoring the victims, first responders and others.

City officials have also placed plaques and markers in each of the three locations ahead of the anniversary.

Area churches are encouraged to ring church bells, along with universities and places of business with chimes, bells or bell towers for one minute, beginning at 5:13 p.m. in honor of those killed.

The ceremonies will each begin at 5 p.m.
