City Of Tuscaloosa To Host Tree Seedling Giveaway To Celebrate Arbor Week

The City of Tuscaloosa announced Friday it will celebrate Arbor Week by distributing more than 2,000 tree seedlings

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The City of Tuscaloosa announced Friday it will celebrate Arbor Week by distributing more than 2,000 tree seedlings during a community giveaway at the Tuscaloosa River Market next month.

The giveaway, held in partnership with the Alabama Forestry Commission, the Westervelt Company and Alabama Power, is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, from 7 a.m. until supplies run out.

The city says bare root and containerized seedlings representing several tree species will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

City officials also expect high demand and are encouraging residents to arrive early.

In addition to distributing seedlings, organizers will provide information on proper tree planting techniques and guidance on selecting appropriate planting locations.

Available tree species will include loblolly pine, southern crab apple, eastern redbud, white dogwood, persimmon, red maple and pecan, among others.
