City Of Tuscaloosa Reminds Residents Of Rental Assistance Program

TUSCALOOSA, AL — After Tuscaloosa County officials rolled out the online application portal for its emergency rental assistance program, the City of Tuscaloosa is reminding its residents to apply if they are in need of help.

The Tuscaloosa County Emergency Rental Assistance Program (TCERAP) portal went live on July 12 and will remain open until Sept. 30, 2022 or until all funds have been committed, the City of Tuscaloosa pointed out on Friday.

The city then said its Department of Neighborhood and Community Services provided assistance to the Tuscaloosa County Commission to create this program, which is open to landlords and renters for rental or utility assistance for bills dating back to March 13, 2020.

To qualify, households must have a combined income at or below 80% of the Area Median Income and one or more members of the household must attest in writing that they have qualified for unemployment benefits or experienced a reduction in income due to the pandemic.

In the first round of funding, as Patch previously reported, the county would receive just north of $6 million for emergency rental assistance from the federal government, while additional aid money could also come by way of a more competitive second round of funding made available through the American Rescue Plan.
