Tuscaloosa County Commission Approves $6.9M For Sheriff's Office Patrol Building
The County Commission on Wednesday approved just short of $6.9 million for the new building, which will also store election machines.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa County Commission on Wednesday approved a $6.89 million bid package from Harrison Construction for a new building for the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office patrol division that will also store the county's voting machines.

Sheriff Ron Abernathy was in attendance, along with Harrison Construction President Tim Harrison, to take questions from the Commission and said the project is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

As Patch previously reported, the County approved $150,000 for site work in March, with much of the work being undertaken by the County's Road and Bridge Department.
"Everything is moving ahead perfect," Abernathy said.

The building will be split between the sheriff's office and the county's maintenance department. Election machines will be stored on the maintenance side, while the new location will serve as a replacement for the airport hanger that previously housed the TCSO patrol division.
The sheriff's office initially acquired the land on 35th Street next the County Public Works Department from the Alabama Board of Education roughly a year ago.
Harrison Construction tabulated the contractor bids for the entire project, before they were presented to the Commission and approved.

- Premier Service Co., Inc. - $929,345
Cumulative total: $6,895,814.
