TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa County Commission on Wednesday unanimously approved $350,000 in unused federal aid money to address four different drainage repair projects in the southern portion of the county.

District 3 Commissioner Mark Nelson, who represents the area, made the motion to use $350,000 from his allotment of discretionary funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

"All of the quotes seem to be under $50,000 and I just want permission to get bids and to go ahead and complete those," he said.

In other county business, Commissioners approved ...
- An allocation of $60,000 in ARPA funding to cover overages for renovations at the Bama Theater in downtown Tuscaloosa.
- The annual Road and Bridge Department Holiday Shutdown, which will begin Friday, Dec. 16 and last through Monday, Jan. 2, 2023.
- Changing the name of Edmondson Cemetery Road to Pine Hill Farms Road in northern Tuscaloosa County.
- Community development funds in the amount of $4,800 for baseball equipment at the Coaling ballpark, along with District 2 Commissioner Jerry Tingle securing $8,000 for baseball equipment for Brookwood Middle School.
