Crash Knocks Out Power In Area Of Busy Northport Intersection

Northport Police are on scene after a vehicle hit a utility pole at Highway 43 and Mitt Lary Road, injuring one person.

NORTHPORT, AL — The Northport Police Department is discouraging motorists from driving in the vicinity of Highway 43 and Mitt Lary Road until electricity is restored after a vehicle struck a utility pole Wednesday evening.

NPD Assistant Chief Keith Carpenter told Tuscaloosa Patch the intersection was closed as of the publication of this story due to downed power lines and traffic lights going dark.

He also said one person was injured in the crash.

Carpenter said Alabama Power estimated that power would be restored around 8:30 p.m.

Until the lights come back on in the area, NPD discourages traffic in the vicinity of the intersection until power is restored.

As of 7 p.m., Alabama Power reported 262 customers impacted in the area of the outage.
