Northport Sonic 'Completely Destroyed' In Friday Morning Fire

NORTHPORT, AL — Northport and Tuscaloosa firefighters responded Friday morning to a large fire at the Sonic Drive-In on Lurleen B. Wallace Boulevard.

The blaze was quickly contained in a matter of minutes and no injuries have been as a result of the fire as of the publication of this story. Unfortunately, though, Northport fire officials said the building was a total loss.

Northport Fire Public Information Officer Jason Norris told Patch an employee first reported that the fire started in the kitchen and all employees were immediately evacuated. Once on scene, firefighters immediately noticed heavy smoke and fire conditions.

"Because of the extent of the fire, we elected to go to a defensive posture for the safety of our personnel, but the building is completely destroyed," he said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
