DCH Tops Previous High With 110 Inpatient COVID-19 Cases

DCH Health System hit a new high for inpatient coronavirus cases on Thursday after a slight dip over the weekend

After a lull over the weekend that saw a dip in inpatient coronavirus cases for DCH Health System, a new spike was seen on Thursday that topped the system’s previous high for those being treated after testing positive for the virus in its three hospitals. The system reported 110 inpatients, a total that is up from 101 cases last Friday, which was the first time the system topped triple-digit totals.

DCH did report that its number of COVID-19 patients being treated in intensive care units was at 29 Thursday, down from 30 last Friday, but up one case from Wednesday.

Another rise was seen in the number of patients on ventilators, which was at 15 Thursday, compared to 10 last Friday when the inpatient case total topped 100.

Conversely, the hospital system reported that, to date, 540 inpatients testing positive for COVID-19 had been discharged.

The news of the increase in inpatient cases comes as the Alabama Department of Public Health reported 3,755 confirmed cases for Tuscaloosa County, marking an increase of 344 cases over the week. During that time, Tuscaloosa County also reported four new deaths, with two listed as probable, bringing the coronavirus death toll in the county to 61.

Statewide, Alabama on Thursday reported a total of 83,495 total cases and 1,516 deaths, with 49 classified as probable.
