According to a deposition obtained by Patch, 20-year-old Michael Lynn Davis — the other man charged with capital murder in the case — is believed to have shot and killed Jamea Harris while she sat in the passenger seat of a vehicle stopped in the 500 block of Grace Street following a minor altercation on The Strip.

Harris was struck once and died shortly thereafter. The two men were quickly identified as suspects and jailed without bond.

Miles is also cited in the deposition admitting to providing Davis the handgun immediately prior to the fatal shooting.

This led investigators with the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit to charge both men with capital murder. The elevation to capital murder is due to the underlying felony committed during the act of killing an individual. In this case, the underlying charge is shooting into an occupied vehicle.

District Attorney Hays Webb confirmed to local media that the two men had their initial appearances in court on Monday. He then explained that their preliminary hearings in district court will likely be within the next three to four weeks and the case will be presented to the Grand Jury.

Following the arrest, it came as little surprise when the UA Athletic Department announced that Miles was no longer part of the Alabama basketball team, as his former teammates gear up to take on Vanderbilt in Nashville on Tuesday.

Attorneys for Miles also released a statement late Sunday night professing the young man's innocence.

"Darius Miles and his family are heartbroken tonight over the death of Jamea Jonae Harris,"the statement said. "While Darius has been accused of being involved with this tragedy, he maintains his innocence and looks forward to his day in court. Our firm's own investigation is ongoing, and no further statement will be made at this time."
