Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center Hosting West Alabama Juried Show

The annual West Alabama Juried Show will be held inside the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa on Tuesday announced it will showcase regional talent in its annual West Alabama Juried Show at the Arts Council Gallery inside the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center.

The Arts Council says award winners will be announced during Arts Council's monthly First Friday celebration on Feb. 6 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

The nonprofit said the juried competition will feature artists from across West Alabama working in a variety of media, including oil, watercolor, fiber, mixed media, metal and photography.

Three awards will be presented to mark the occasion, including the $1,000 Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama Purchase Award, the $500 Gail Skidmore Memorial Award of Excellence and a $100 cash award.

The Purchase Award artwork will also be displayed at the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama office in downtown Tuscaloosa following the exhibition.

The Arts Council said artists residing in Bibb, Dallas, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Perry, Shelby, Sumter, Tuscaloosa and Walker counties were eligible to participate in the show.

This year’s competition was juried by Alex Stelioes-Wills, who serves as department chair and associate professor of art at the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi.
