Driver Sought In Fatal Crash That Killed Brookwood Man Saturday

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A Brookwood man is dead following a single-vehicle crash Saturday evening on Maxwell Loop Road.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said William R. Smith Jr., 58, was fatally injured when the 2021 Kia Seltos that he was a passenger in left the roadway and struck a tree. The crash occurred at approximately 5 p.m.

ALEA says Smith was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Additionally, investigators said the driver of the Kia left the scene of the crash before troopers arrived and has not been located as of the publication of this story.

The crash occurred on Maxwell Loop Road approximately five miles south of Tuscaloosa City limits, in Tuscaloosa County.
