Druid City Brewing Set To Open Kitchen Named After Late Co-Founder

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Druid City Brewing Co. is gearing up to formally open its newest culinary venture on Tuesday, with its name serving to memorialize the life of one of its founders.

Ell's Kitchen — named after Druid City Brewing Co. co-founder Elliott Roberts — held a soft opening last week and will now host a grand opening celebration on Tuesday, July 24 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m.

"We've put a lot into it," Druid City Brewing Co. owner Bo Hicks told Patch. "[Roberts] was a lover of all good vittles and loved to cook so it's something we think he would be very proud of."

Roberts was a well-known and beloved member of the community, first opening Druid City Brewing Co. with Hicks in 2012.

Roberts died in February at the age of 48.

Hicks said it was an easy decision to honor his friend in the name of the new kitchen in the brewery and said he hopes the menu reflects the brand's commitment to putting its own spin on comfort food favorites.

"For the menu, something we've done for years is cook sausages and hot dogs," Hicks said. "So we made some interesting spins on big quarter-pound hot dogs and BBQ nachos. It seems like a seasonal thing if you happen to be on The Strip on a game day, so we put out twist on those."

For entertainment Tuesday night, the brewery's Moon Room will feature a performance by Just Majority — a vibraphone-driven jazz band native to Alabama but who are studying at the Manhattan School of Music.

The event will also offer drawings for hats and other prizes to commemorate the occasion.

Druid City Brewing Co. is located at 700 14th Street in Tuscaloosa.
