Exotic Pet Store Opens In Downtown Northport

NORTHPORT, AL — Northport's newest pet shop held a soft opening at its Main Avenue location on Wednesday, as its owners aim to bring a menagerie of exotic pets to local animal lovers.

Keri Durant, owner of Sounds Fishy Aquatics & Exotics, said the store offers freshwater and saltwater fish, reptiles, rabbits, parrots, tortoises, snakes, frogs and other exotic animals. As a promotion on Wednesday, every visitor under the age of 15 was offered a free goldfish.

"Amazingly enough, my water bill hasn't been that bad," Durant said with a laugh as she showed off two large rooms with tanks along with walls. In the future she hopes to dedicate one of the rooms solely to saltwater species.

The business also offers more traditional pets, such as cats and ferrets, some of whom have either been rescued or given up for adoption.

"I'll certainly not turn anybody away," Durant said to those who may been looking to re-home certain animals.
