Fitts Named As Keynote Speaker For Tuscaloosa Memorial Day Program

Veterans Memorial Park will be the venue for Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority's annual Memorial Day program on May 30.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A wide array of Tuscaloosa-area groups are set to gather on Monday, May 30 to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Veterans Memorial Park will be the venue for Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority's annual Memorial Day program, which will also be made possible thanks to the Veterans Memorial Park Association, Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center and The University of Alabama Office of Veteran and Military Affairs.

The program will begin at 9 a.m. and will feature Tuscaloosa native Forrest Fitts as the keynote speaker.

A graduate of Central High School, Fitts finished Marine Officers Basic School and Infantry Officers Course before joining the 1st Battalion 5th Marine Regiment, where he served as Rifle Platoon Commander, 81mm Mortar Platoon Commander and Weapons Company Executive Officer.

Fitts was honorably discharged in 2001 at the rank of major and went on to work for United States Fidelity & Guaranty Company as a commercial lines underwriter in Atlanta.

He returned home to Tuscaloosa in 1994, joining the Fitts Agency, Inc. where currently serves as Chairman and CEO.

The colors for the program will be presented by the Paul W. Bryant High School JROTC.

Veterans Memorial Park is located adjacent to University Mall at 1701 McFarland Boulevard E.
