Former Akron Town Clerk Indicted On Ethics And Theft Charges

Former Akron Town Clerk Diann Taylor has been indicted on ethics and theft charges after surrendering to authorities on Wednesday

AKRON, AL — Former Akron Town Clerk Diann Taylor has been indicted on ethics and theft charges after surrendering to authorities on Wednesday, the Alabama Attorney General's Office announced this week.

Attorney General Steve Marshall says Taylor, 42, had served as town clerk until November 2020, and stand accused of using her position to access the town's public library bank account. Through these acts, Taylor is thought to have received $115,184.40 in either cash or debit card purchases for herself, a family member, or business with which she was associated.

Taylor is charged with three counts as part of the indictment: Using her office for personal financial gain, theft and making a false statement to an employee of the Alabama Ethics Commission.

If convicted, Marshall says Taylor could face a maximum penalty of between two-and-20 years imprisonment for each of the first two criminal charges and up to one year for the ethics charge.
