Former Brookwood Standout Brandon Johnson Drafted By Kansas City Royals
Former Brookwood Panther and Ole Miss baseball standout Brandon Johnson was drafted in the ninth round by the Kansas City Royals.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Former Brookwood High School standout and Ole Miss closer Brandon Johnson is set to take his talents to the next level after being selected by the Kansas City Royals in the ninth round of the 2022 MLB Draft on Monday.

The hard-throwing right hander from Cottondale was taken with the 265th overall pick, which follows his contributions for the Rebels in their 2022 College World Series championship run.

Johnson's only appearance in the College World Series championship round was a memorable one, as he struck out the side to slam the door on the Oklahoma Sooners 4-2 for the Rebels to win their first national title in baseball.
During the 2022 campaign, Johnson tossed 41.2 innings and posted a 4.32 earned run average, along with logging 12 saves.

Johnson made 18 relief appearances during his junior year, with a 4.70 ERA and 28 strikeouts.
A four-year starter for Brookwood High baseball coach Jeff Bell, Johnson also lettered four years in both basketball and football for the Panthers.

After graduating from Brookwood High, Johnson enrolled at Columbia State Community College in Tennessee and went on to earn NJCAA Pitcher of the Week on two separate occasions over his two seasons.
He is the son of Michael and Sandy Johnson and has two sisters: Katie and Lynsey.
