Former Surgeon General To Speak At Stillman College Event

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Stillman College on Friday announced it will host former United States Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher as its fall 2022 Realizing the Dream Distinguished Lecturer next month.

The lecture is scheduled to take place Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in Stinson Auditorium on the Stillman College campus. Stillman says the Realizing the Dream initiative includes a lecture series and other annual events, made possible through the coordinated efforts of the Realizing the Dream Committee.

The committee is comprised of representatives from Stillman College, Shelton State Community College, The University of Alabama and the Tuscaloosa Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

An Anniston native, Satcher was the 16th Surgeon General of the United States and former Secretary for Health in the Department of Health and Human Services. Satcher was also the second person in history to hold both positions simultaneously.

He also served as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 1993 to 1998.

A four-star admiral in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, he is also the founder of the Satcher Health Leadership Institute.
