Georgia Woman Killed, Two Injured In Greene County Crash
A Georgia woman was killed Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 59 in Greene County.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A Sandy Springs, Georgia, woman was killed Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 59 in Greene County.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) told local media Friday that Shelia A. Powell, 64, died after the 2022 Hyundai Venue in which she was riding left the roadway, struck a cable barrier, overturned and was then hit by a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 driven by a man from Pelham.

ALEA said Powell was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two occupants of the the Hyundai were both injured and taken to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa for treatment.

The crash happened at about 3:30 p.m. Monday near the 47-mile marker on Interstate 59, roughly seven miles north of Eutaw.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
