Gibbs Earns SEC Honors For Performance In Road Win At Arkansas

After rushing for over 200 yards and two scores, the junior ball carrier was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — University of Alabama junior running back Jahmyr Gibbs was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week after he rushed for more than 200 yards in Alabama's 49-26 SEC road win over Arkansas in Fayetteville on Saturday.

The honor for Gibbs represents the fourth on the season for the Crimson Tide.

In the performance, Gibbs carried the ball 18 times for 206 yards and two touchdowns, including a pair of eye-popping scampers for over 70 yards. If you're doing the math, Gibbs averaged 11.4 yards per carry on the day, which is the second-best single-game average in Crimson Tide history.

His two biggest plays game on touchdown runs of 72 yards and 76 yards, respectively, to put the Tide up 21-3 in fourth quarter.

Gibbs transferred to the Capstone in the offseason after two seasons with Georgia Tech. During his two years for the Yellowjackets, the pride of Dalton, Georgia averaged 5.2 yards per carry and scored eight touchdowns over 19 — good enough to be named to the 2021 All-ACC Team at three different positions and voted First Team All-ACC as an all-purpose back.

Gibbs and the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide (5-0, 3-0 SEC) will host Texas A&M (3-2, 2-1) Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
