As Patch previously reported, Lolly has served as the school’s facility dog for nearly five years and was recently found to be internally bleeding, along with showing signs of carcinomatosis.

She was referred to the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine after staff noticed a distended abdomen last week.
According to the GoFundMe, veterinarians discovered cancer cells in Lolly’s spleen and in the fluid in her abdomen, though doctors have been unable to identify a mass or additional symptoms.

Despite the diagnosis, organizers say Lolly has continued to display her usual calm and friendly demeanor.
“Every day this week Lolly’s demeanor has remained happy, calm and tending to her people at school,” the GoFundMe says. “Which is part of what is baffling the doctors.”
As facility dog, Lolly helps reduce anxiety, encourages participation, supports inclusion and provides comfort to students — often through quiet companionship and interaction.
“She is a huge part of the culture at Echols and loved by so many,” the fundraiser said.
The GoFundMe campaign is intended to help cover advanced veterinary care, including consultations with an oncologist, as the school and Lolly’s handlers explore treatment options and ways to ensure her comfort.
Organizers say donations will help give Lolly “a fighting chance” during what they describe as a medical crisis.
As of the publication of this story, the GoFundMe had raised $2,405 toward its goal of $10,000.
