The online fundraising drive launched on Wednesday had nearly garnered $1,000 in its first hour from 10 donors toward its $5,000 goal.
The GoFundMe was established by Lucy Flowers — a relative of Whitson's — in an effort to help offset the inevitable financial costs that will be faced by Whitson's family during such a difficult time.
