TUSCALOOSA, AL — A Gordo man died Sunday from injuries suffered in a single-vehicle crash Saturday night on Interstate 59, roughly three miles north of Tuscaloosa.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) says at approximately 11 p.m. Saturday, Emmanuel Martinez, 22, was critically injured when the 1996 GMC Sierra he was driving left the roadway, struck a ditch and then a tree.

ALEA said Martinez was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa for medical treatment. State troopers said he died from his injuries on Sunday.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
