Hale County High To Honor Former Wildcat, Bama Star Herbert Jones
The school will host a celebration program for the SEC Player of the Year and former Wildcat on April 29 at 6 p.m.

MOUNDVILLE, AL — Hale County High School has announced plans for later this month to honor an athlete who is arguably the most notable former Wildcat in school history.
On April 29, the school will host a free program at 6 p.m. in front of the school in Moundville that will honor the accomplishments of Alabama forward Herbert Jones — who in his senior year snagged both SEC Player of the Year and SEC Defensive Player of the Year as the Tide cruised to regular season and conference tournament championships, before an NCAA Tournament run ended in the Sweet Sixteen.

Jones began his prep career playing for his father, Walter Jones Sr., at Sunshine High School before the school closed in 2015. Jones would go on to play at Hale County under Antwan Butler, with his father also coaching on the sidelines as an assistant.
In his senior year for the Wildcats, Jones averaged 16.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as he led Hale County to the 2017 4A state championship, where he was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. He was also named 4A State Player of the Year in 2017.

Jones would go on to start 13 games as a freshman for the Crimson Tide before being named a team captain as a sophomore and appearing more in a starting role. His junior year would see the Greensboro native named to the SEC’s All-Defensive Team before his breakout senior year in the 2020-2021 season solidified his legacy as an elite competitor among the famous names in the program's history.
