The announcement was made Sunday by the city's Retail Committee, which comes after receiving feedback about a desire for new sit-down restaurants.

The public hearing will be held in City Hall at 5:30 p.m., before a formal recommendation is made to the full City Council for economic incentives for the business, which currently operates a popular location in Livingston.

Diamond Jim's is well-known as a destination restaurant that offers a wide variety of hand-cut steak options and seafood.

City Council President Jeff Hogg says the proposed location will be on Highway 43 across from the new Los Tarascos, which will be in District 1.

"Our Retail Committee has worked hard to try and attract not only quality businesses, but recognizable brand names, as well," Hogg said. "We feel that this project could set the tone for the future of Northport by improving an area that has sat vacant for a long time."

Hogg said the proposed project would help reshape the face of Highway 43 and will now become a major focus area for future development.

Hogg then encouraged citizens to email questions and concerns to their City Council representative ahead of the public hearing.
