Historic Tuscaloosa To Host Free Summer Lecture Series On Revolutionary War

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Historic Tuscaloosa will host a three-part lecture series this summer that will highlight Tuscaloosa history and the American Revolution this summer.

The nonprofit said free lecture topics will include the "historic aspect of a local cemetery, a famous Frenchman’s visit and an original Tuscaloosa street lined with Historic homes."

The lectures will be hosted at the Jemison-Van de Graaff Mansion at 5:30 p.m. on the following days:

• Thursday, June 23 — Becky Davenport, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, will discuss “Preserving Tuscaloosa’s Greenwood Cemetery; How Preserving Revolutionary War Patriots Gravesites Led to Community Interest and Support.”
• Thursday, July 21 — local historian Richard Rhone presents “Lafayette and His 1825 Visit to Alabama.”
• Thursday, Aug. 25. — “East Margin Avenue:Historic Homes.” Kelly Fitts will offer information on the creation of homes on East Margin Street, which is now known as Queen City Avenue.
