Holt Man Jailed After DUI Crash Injures 2 UA Students On Strip
William Patrick Brown, 32, was taken into custody Friday night after hitting a ride sharing golf cart carrying two passengers and a driver.
TUSCALOOSA, AL — Two University of Alabama students were seriously injured by a suspected drunk driver on The Strip Friday night. Holt resident William Patrick Brown, 32, is also facing felony charges after crashing his Jeep Cherokee into a van and a Joyride golf cart at 10:30 p.m.
Tuscaloosa Patch has obtained a video of the crash, which occurred in the area of Rounders and Quick Grill on University Boulevard. The footage shows the jeep hit the broad side of the golf cart at a high rate of speed, pinning it against a van. Out of respect to the graphic nature of the video, along with respect for the victims, sources and the investigation, Tuscaloosa Patch has opted to not publish the video.

Brown is currently charged with first- and second-degree assault, while the Tuscaloosa Police Department says the investigation of a potential DUI charge is still ongoing. He was being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail Saturday morning with bond set at $45,000, and pending a sobriety test.
TPD says it was determined that Brown had been speeding through the Publix parking lot before he ran the stop sign entering University Boulevard and crashed into the Joyride and the van.

The Joyride passengers, an 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, were still being treated for serious injuries at DCH Regional Medical Center Saturday morning. The rideshare driver also later went to the hospital via private vehicle for treatment of less serious injuries, while investigators said the driver of the van did not appear to be injured.
