TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa City Schools on Wednesday announced that Paul W. Bryant High student Steffan Thurman has been selected for the High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall later this month.

“It’s an incredible opportunity that not a lot of kids my age get to have," he said. "I’m grateful for the support of my teachers and my band director, Mr. Selwyn Reed for nominating me for such. I’m so excited to make some good music."

TCS says Steffan will perform the trombone this month with the Honors Symphony Orchestra, with its members consisting of the highest-rated young performers from across the world.
TCS then explained that Steffan has studied music for 10 years and is a member of the University of Alabama Campus Orchestra and the Paul W. Bryant High School bands.

For the last two years, he has also been accepted to Alabama’s top All-State band, evening receiving a “Superior” ranking at Solo and Ensemble for Euphonium and Trombone.
Music Director for the Honors Performance Series Marion Gomez said being selected to the Honors Performance Series is something each finalist should be extremely proud of.
“We processed nearly 10,000 nominations this year and have selected the most talented student performers from around the world," he said. "Working with these conductors and performing at these renowned music halls is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that these musicians will never forget.”
The Honors Performance will take place Feb. 4.
