Ichiban Closing In March, GoFundMe Started For Relocation

A crowdsourcing fundraiser has been started after it was announced that the longtime Japanese restaurant would be closed.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A longtime staple of the Tuscaloosa culinary scene will soon close its doors on 15th Street, but is holding out for a possible relocation. Ichiban Japanese Grill & Sushi announced on its Facebook Friday that the restaurant owners had received a termination letter from the property owner, which will require them to move out by March 20.

Ichiban then said it will soon provide updates as it looks to relocate.

"We are excited to serve everyone again in our new location as soon as possible," the post said. "We haven’t decided on our last day but we will update everyone on Facebook."

In an effort to raise money for the relocation, a GoFundMe drive has been established with the goal of raising $5,000. As of the publication of this story, the GoFundMe had raised $1,127 from 31 donors.
