Investigators Identify Tuscaloosa Man Killed In Sunday Night Shooting

One man is dead and another hospitalized following a shooting during a party at a Tuscaloosa apartment complex Sunday night.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Investigators with the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit gave an update Monday morning following an overnight shooting at the Cottages at Lake Tamaha that left one man dead and another hospitalized.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multi-agency unit, said officers with the Tuscaloosa Police Department responded at approximately 11 p.m. Sunday night to the call of a shooting at the apartment complex, with the scene located near the complex's front gate and pool area.

Kennedy then said two men with gunshot wounds were transported in personal vehicles to DCH Regional Medical Center shortly thereafter.

One of the men, 22-year-old Dontavius White, of Tuscaloosa, was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital. The other man — an 18-year-old — was taken to surgery and is expected to recover.

"It was found that an altercation had occurred during a large gathering or party, when the shooting occurred," Kennedy said. " VCU is in the process of interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. At this time no arrests has been made, and the investigation is ongoing."
