Junior League To Host Community Blood Drive In Northport

NORTHPORT, AL — The Junior League of Tuscaloosa will host a community blood drive Thursday as part of International Find the Good Day.

The blood drive will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Northport Civic Center at Northport City Hall.

Organizers said the event is intended to call attention to the ongoing need for blood donations.

According to information provided by the Junior League, only about 3% of eligible Americans donate blood each year, despite nearly 62% of the population being eligible.

The organization also pointed to recent concerns over blood supplies in Alabama, where hospitals have reported reserves falling below two days in some instances.

“Find the Good Day is about recognizing that each of us has the ability to make a positive difference in our community,” Junior League of Tuscaloosa President Chelsea Ratcliff said. “Whether it’s giving blood, supporting a local nonprofit or business, or simply showing kindness to someone else, small acts of good can add up to meaningful impact.”

Find the Good Day is an international Junior League initiative encouraging members and communities to participate in acts of service and kindness.

Ratcliff said the Tuscaloosa organization chose the blood drive as a way to put that mission into practice while addressing a community need.

“Service is at the heart of the Junior League of Tuscaloosa, and Find the Good Day gives us an opportunity to put that spirit into action alongside our community,” Ratcliff said. “We invite the community to join us in finding the good.”
