The Northport Police Department then requested assistance from the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, which is leading the investigation.

Sellers said investigators determined that several juvenile males and at least two adult males were inside the apartment when the shooting occurred. He went on to say the apartment was not the victim's residence and neither of his parents was present at the time of the incident.

"There is no evidence at this time that an altercation or argument was underway when it occurred," Sellers said. "It is unclear at this time how the weapons were in the residence and the circumstances that led to the victim being shot."

Sellers said the investigation remains in its early stages as detectives continue interviewing those involved and examining evidence collected from the scene.

"Charges may be filed once all the parties have been talked to and the evidence examined," Sellers said.
