'Lights to Unite' To Honor Purple Heart Recipients Across Tuscaloosa County

Northport, Tuscaloosa and Tuscaloosa County will join other cities and towns across the country in lighting up their buildings.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The local Chapter 2211 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Mike Spann Detachment of the Marine Corps League are set to partner with local government officials and Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority (PARA) to host “Lights to Unite” to commemorate the 240th Anniversary of the Purple Heart Award during Veterans Day weekend.

From Nov. 10-12 from 5 p.m. until 12 p.m. venues across the county will illuminated by purple lights to honor recipients of the prestigious combat medal awarded to those injured in service of their country.

The initiative marks the first of its kind by the National Flag Foundation, aimed at raising awareness of the sacrifices and contributions of Purple Heart recipients.
