LSU Punter, Former Hillcrest Star Named To National Award Watch List
The former Hillcrest High standout and Notre Dame transfer is looking to make a splash in Baton Rouge for his senior season.

BATON ROUGE, LA — Former Hillcrest High School football standout Jay Bramblett has yet to take the field for the LSU Tigers after transferring from Notre Dame, but the Tuscaloosa native is already making waves after being named a preseason finalist for the Ray Guy Award, which is the most prestigious award given each year to collegiate punters.

Bramblett was a three-year starter at Notre Dame under coach Brian Kelly, and followed his head coach to Baton Rouge after he was announced as the next head football coach for the Tigers. He will wear No. 19 for the Tigers.

The Tigers will also take on Bramblett's hometown Alabama Crimson Tide in the favorable confines of Tiger Stadium on Nov. 5.
During his junior season for the Fighting Irish, he averaged an eye-popping 43.1 yards on 58 punts. The longest punt launched by Bramblett during the 2021 campaign travelled 72 yards against Wisconsin.

Bramblett appeared in a total of 38 games for Notre Dame over his three years in South Bend, Indiana.
During his time at Hillcrest High School, where he also played quarterback, Bramblett went on to be named the No. 2 high school punter in the country by 247Sports.com and No. 5 best by ESPN.com. His performance his senior year of high school was good enough to see him chosen to participate in the 2019 All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas.
While on the field for the Patriots, Bramblett averaged 45.1 yards per punt, while also completing 178-of-260 passes for 2,341 yards and 18 TDs.
He is the son of Mike and Amy Bramblett. His father currently serves as the head football coach at Brookwood High School.
