The junior quarterback from Jacksonville, Florida is near the top of many Heisman Trophy contender lists and ripped apart the league's third-ranked scoring defense, throwing for 302 yards and a career-best five touchdown passes. While aided by stellar receiving performances from DeVonta Smith and John Metchie III, commentators praised the abilities of the quarterback during his first win against the Tigers as a starter.

In its announcement Monday, the league office pointed out that Saturday's Iron Bowl was Jones' sixth game with at least 290 passing yards, while his five passing touchdowns tied an Iron Bowl and school record. Gary Hollingsworth and Tua Tagovailoa are the only other Tide quarterbacks to throw for five scores in a single outing, with Tagovailoa doing it three times over the course of his career, including the 2018 Iron Bowl.

During Saturday's contest, Jones managed a passer rating of 230.26 on 26 attempts, averaging 16.8 yards and completing six throws of at least 24 yards.

Jones also leads all Power 5 conference quarterbacks with a 208.0 passer efficiency rating and ranks fourth nationally with 341 passing yards per game.

Over the course of eight games, Jones has gone 173-for-227 through the air, notching 2,728 yards and 28 passing touchdowns, while giving up only three interceptions.

Jones and the No. 1 Crimson Tide (8-0) are set to take on the LSU Tigers (3-4) in Baton Rouge this Saturday, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
