TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox has been named chair of the newly formed SEC Mayors Alliance, a coalition launched during this year’s South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas.

The City of Tuscaloosa said the alliance will focus on three shared priorities among participating cities: public safety, relationships with local universities and economic development.

“I look forward to the positive impact that this group will have on our communities moving forward,” Maddox said in a statement. “I am proud and honored to work alongside my colleagues in this capacity.”
Maddox will serve alongside Oxford, Mississippi, Mayor Robyn Tannehill, who was elected vice chair.

The alliance held its inaugural meeting at SXSW, though additional details about its membership and future initiatives were not immediately released.
