Man Charged With First-Degree Rape In Cottondale

Investigators have charged a man with first-degree rape after police responded to a call Sunday morning in Cottondale.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit has charged a man with first-degree rape after police responded to a call Sunday morning in Cottondale.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multi-agency unit, said Keaundre Perry, 29, was located by investigators after responding to the call at approximately 7 a.m. He then said in order to protect to protect the privacy of the victim, both the exact location of the incident and the victim's information will not be released.

Kennedy also said Perry was arrested last November after a previous investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit for first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree sodomy. At the time of his most recent arrest over the weekend, he was already out on $25,000 for the offenses in November.

"Due to that fact, Perry was committed to jail without a bond until evaluation by the courts," Kennedy said. "Investigators also contacted the District Attorney’s Office to request that Perry’s bond be revoked in this earlier case."

In the November arrest, Kennedy said Perry was an acquaintance of the victim, before pointing out that there is no reason to believe that any other persons in the Cottondale area are in any danger.

He did say, however, that due to the nature of the assaults, those who may have been a victim of Perry are asked to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at (205) 464-8690.
