Man Shot Monday Morning While Driving On Interstate 20/59

TUSCALOOSA, AL — One person was injured in a Monday morning shooting while he was driving on Interstate 20/59, near the 73 mile marker.

Tuscaloosa Police responded after the 19-year-old victim called police informing them that they had been shot as they were traveling south on the interstate.

The victim reported that someone fired shots from another vehicle at approximately 7:26 a.m., as the victim was struck by gunfire that passed through the vehicle's windshield. TPD said he was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center, where he is currently receiving treatment for his injuries.
TPD went on to say there was no threat to the public or motorists at this time, but did not specify on potential suspects or arrests.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is now handling the case.
Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the unit, told local media that the victim's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. Kennedy also said a traffic accident occurred in the same general area after a passerby struck a police vehicle in a crash unrelated to the shooting.
