Maurice Sealey Enters Race For Tuscaloosa City Council District 7

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa funeral home director Oliver “Maurice” Sealey on Wednesday announced his candidacy for District 7 on the Tuscaloosa City Council.

Sealey will appear on the ballot against District 7 incumbent Cassius Lanier, who is looking to secure his second term on the City Council.

A native of Tuscaloosa for over three decades, Sealey currently works as a licensed funeral director at Van Hoose and Steele Funeral Home.

Sealey and his wife Alfreda Prince Sealey are members of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa and he previously worked for Alabama Power.

In discussing his campaign platform, Sealey aims to focus on building safe, walkable neighborhoods, while restoring and strengthening neighborhood watch programs to keep the community of District 7 safe.

Sealey then said he plans to revitalize the Skyland Boulevard corridor to make it a better place to shop, do business and live.

Sealey also expressed his commitment to the concepts of transparency in government and plans to hold district-wide town hall meetings every four months if he is elected to the Tuscaloosa City Council.

Tuscaloosa's municipal election is set for March 4, with the qualifying period for those interested in running scheduled for Jan. 28.
