Mayors Of Tuscaloosa, Austin Make BBQ Wager Ahead Of Big Game

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox on Wednesday announced a wager with Austin Mayor Kirk Watson regarding the outcome of the University of Texas at The University of Alabama football game this Saturday in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

As part of the announcement, Maddox said if Alabama wins, Watson will send barbecue to the mayor and the city's staff from Micklethwait Craft Meats.

“This friendly wager ups the ante on what already promised to be an exciting rematch between the Crimson Tide and the Longhorns,” Maddox said. “I have full confidence that Alabama will prevail once again in the electric atmosphere of Bryant-Denny Stadium, and look forward to a taste of Central Texas BBQ. Best of luck to Mayor Watson, and Roll Tide!”

However, if the Longhorns come out on top, Maddox will send a barbecue from Dreamland BBQ to Watson and his team.

“Texas is fired up and ready for a rematch,” Watson said. “I look forward to trying some of Tuscaloosa’s best BBQ after we beat Alabama. All that said, this will be a good game between two iconic college football programs in what’s likely an early chapter in a budding rivalry.”

Saturday's game between the Longhorns and Crimson Tide is set to kick off at 6 p.m. local time.
